Man, is the cold weather gone yet, seems like Puxatony Phil was right after all. Its the second week in a row of a fun Nor-easter rollin up the coast and then I am hoping that spring time pattern is upon us with some warmer temps and some jumping bass. So, what can a bass tell us based on his appearance?
So lets assume that jumping bass above is now in my hands, its now time to give him the once over as to how he looks. We already covered some different baits to use for the spring time pattern, but lets do a Bass Body analysis to give us an idea of what they are up too, all based on his appearance. A white colorless bass, gives me a pretty quick answer. He has been hanging out in deeper water, and is much like us as humans if we live in a colder area. For us, we lose that tan and become pale, and as the water temp move along, so does the bass. Take a quick look at Walker Smith’s 3 Visual Keys to Pattern Spring Bass.
Here is a quick reminder! Check there color, how’s that body look and Inspect that tail. Follow these three key rules and you will be on your way to catching more spring time bass.
